Free a woman from prostitution
For only 5000 SEK (590 USD) you can be a part of freeing an Indian woman from slavery as well as give her a year of rehabilitation at the women's home Naomi Sisters Home.
All our assistance is through local contacts, which means that the cost is low and the efficiency is high. Through Sisters International's partner organization EWM, we see high needs in Thiyagadurgam, Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu State, located in southeast India. The close proximity to a large orphanage allows the women who stay in Naomi Sisters Home to get daily activities to help with the work with the children, and for example, become engaged in sewing clothes for the children and themselves.
Our strategy is to help the women for their entire lives. We are changing the conditions for them through rehabilitation, education and different skills. An example of what we have done in another area is that we have trained 22 women to become seamstresses. They can now support themselves and their family, and to some extent also a wider group of people. When it comes to freeing a woman from prostitution, those we work with in India are very well aware of their surroundings and how they need to work for it to produce long-term results. They are also aware of the problem areas found in the context of rural areas in India.
We work hand in hand with the objectives held by organizations such as the International Justice Mission, while our focus is not to act operationally in terms of slavery and prostitution. However, our partner organization are again and again found in situations where contacts are made by police authorities and other actors, where it appears that the only way to proceed is to simply purchase the freedom a woman or girl who ended up in prostitution or slavery.
We work long term to change the conditions for women to get out of poverty through rehabilitation, information and education. These women are in turn key people which means that many others will see the opportunities and take them. Naomi Sisters Home is an example of such a place where organizations such as the International Justice Mission can send their freed girls so that they can receive a "new life".
