Women in Bacau prison
Sisters International has had several successful projects in women's prisons in Romania.
The first project was done in 2011 together with the Swedish organization "My first Bible", and meant that the mothers who sat in Bacau prison received Christmas gifts that they could send to their children. Sisters Christmas Bags were also given to over 200 women at the Bacau prison & Galati prison at Christmas. The work then continued with a health project in 2012 where all the detainees, as well as some prison guards, received health checks and advice for how to manage their health.
In the summer of 2013, Sisters International was asked by the prison authorities if there was an interest in financing a sewing school in the prison for the women who come from poor conditions. The sewing school started in November 2013, and lasted for about 6 months. After the training finished, all the women who went through the training received a course certificate that allows them to support themselves after their release from prison. The cost of training was SEK 25 000.
